The wife of the President of Ukraine Olena Zelenska initiated the implementation of the “National Program of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support" in Ukraine. The need to create such an institution is very high, because, according to the Ministry of Health, more than 60% of Ukrainians already have mental injuries. We are talking, above all, about post-traumatic stress disorder.
The purpose of the program is to help people deal with stress and trauma caused by the war, as well as to prevent the development of various mental disorders on this basis. First of all, the program is designed for military and civilians who have suffered serious losses, violence or captivity or occupation.
According to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the psychological consequences of hostilities will affect people's health for about 10 years. This, in turn, can lead to an increase in alcohol and drug addicts, divorce, suicide and more. That is why we need to work actively with the mental health of Ukrainians.
Russian aggression is taking lives, crippling them physically and psychologically, forcing Ukrainians to leave their homes, separating families, and stealing childhood. People find themselves under occupation, taken prisoner, tortured, and lost loved ones - often in front of their own eyes. We have no idea how many people have experienced gender-based violence. During the months of war, Ukrainians unfortunately experienced what seemed impossible in the civilized world. In the heart of Europe. And in the XXI century
Olena Zelenska's initiative has already been supported by the wives of some leaders. In particular, the first ladies of the United States, Israel, Poland and others. The development of the program has already begun, so the implementation is not far off.
It will be recalled that we recently wrote about the work at the Pavlovsk Psychiatric Hospital during the war..
